Benefits of networking for Small to Medium Businesses

I was at an SMB networking event this morning and whilst I found it to be a really good event, it set me thinking about the number of small business owners that actually make time to attend these sort of meetings.  The opportunity to practise a Sales pitch to a ‘frinedly’ audience alone is worth the entry price, as most of us don’t do it enough.  Then there are the connections you can make – both immediate and the extended contacts you can reach.  I’m sure the was a suggestion that most people are only 6 steps away from the Prime Minister, or something like that and this is a way of making sure that you fall into that category.  At today’s event, I got talking to one person who met a contact at an event a few years back and this contact subsequently became a client.  Now, 90% of the business’ revenue can be traced back to that contact made 3 years ago and his subsequent referrals!   perfect demonstration of the impact it can have.  There is an interesting article about the benefits of networking in the Small Business BC website.  Click here to read it.  There are all types of events you can attend and there is bound to be one near you, so give it a try – you might make a connection that transforms your business……
